Ingredients in a Tiramisu

There is a world of variations to Tiramisu, but they all have at least three main ingredients: ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, and strongly brewed coffee. Here’s what you’ll need for this recipe:

For the Mascarpone Filling:
– Egg Yolk
– Granulated Sugar
– Water
– Mascarpone
– Heavy Cream

For Assembly:
– Ladyfingers
– Coffee
– Vanilla Extract*
– Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

*Note: This recipe is alcohol-free, however, if you prefer it with liquor, switch the vanilla extract with rum or brandy!

Tips for Making the Ultimate Tiramisu

Quality Matters: Choose high-quality ingredients, especially the mascarpone cheese and cocoa powder. Trust me, you’ll notice the difference.

Dunk, Don’t Drench: When dipping the ladyfinger cookies in coffee, a quick dunk is all they need. You want them moist, not soggy.

Chill Time is Key: Tiramisu loves to chill! Allow it to rest in the fridge for a few hours, or preferably overnight. This lets the flavors mingle and allows the dessert to set beautifully.

Make the Filling

In a large bowl with a rubber spatula, mix the mascarpone until softened. Add in the egg yolk mixture and blend until fully incorporated. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream to reach soft peaks. Fold the cream into the mascarpone mixture until combined. Once the filing is complete, set aside & refrigerate until ready for assembly.

3.

Start Assembling

Create an assembly line by lining up your baking dish/serving dish, the ladyfingers, coffee in a bowl, and the filling. Start by quickly dipping one ladyfinger at a time in the bowl of coffee (avoid dipping for too long, this will make them soggy), arrange the dipped ladyfingers by laying them side by side at the bottom of your baking dish.

4.

Finish Assembling

Once the bottom of your baking dish is covered in one even layer of ladyfingers, add about half of the filling on top, spreading into an even thick layer. Dip the rest of the ladyfingers in coffee and arrange them closely together on top of the layer of filling. Add the remaining half of the filling on top spreading in an even smooth top layer.

5.

Set + Serve

Cover the tiramisu in plastic wrap and refrigerate to chill for at least 4 hours, overnight, or until set. Once ready to serve, dust the top generously with cocoa powder. Cut into pieces, scoop it out, or eat it straight from the dish to enjoy your tiramisu!
